ILMA was born at the foot of the Italian Alps, in the heart of a land where the culture of wood has always been part of everyday life. Founded in the early 1970s by Aldo Bergia in Magliano Alpi, ILMA grew from a family-run timber business into one of Italy’s most advanced centers for engineered wood construction. What began as a sawmill serving Europe has evolved into a company capable of shaping buildings, spaces, and human experiences through timber architecture.
In the heart of Valle Maira, Aldo Bergia founded ILMA with a belief that wood could be shaped into something enduring, beautiful, and profoundly human. From a mountain sawmill in Dronero, a journey began that would redefine Italian timber architecture.
The Vision Begins
Buildings are long games. ILMA Care certifies installers, provides scheduled maintenance, and monitors real performance through digital dashboards. That protects ROI, reduces liability, and keeps end-users happy for decades. We don’t drop pallets and disappear; we stay until the last bolt is tight and long after.
Craft Meets Design
ILMA became more than a supplier—it became a partner to architects and builders. The creation of its in-house technical office marked a turning point: engineered timber was no longer just built; it was designed.
Innovation Takes Shape
A complete modernization doubled capacity and introduced advanced treatments for wood durability. With the first precut roofs, ILMA changed the way wood was built bringing millimetric precision from the factory to the skyline.
The Digital Factory of Wood
In 2001, ILMA installed its first fully automated Hundegger system. Craftsmanship met robotics, tripling productivity and defining a new era of precision timber construction. ILMA didn’t follow innovation it pioneered it.
Expanding Horizons
New Hundegger centers, a dedicated finishing facility, and custom air systems made ILMA one of Italy’s cleanest and most advanced production sites.
The Future Becomes Structural
With Uniteam technology, ILMA entered the world of X-Lam, allowing it to project and manufacture entire buildings: strong, sustainable, and stunningly crafted.
Refining Perfection
Next-generation cutting systems, automatic wrapping, and advanced impregnation ensured ILMA’s wood arrived on site as flawless as it left the factory, adding an extra level of protection.
The Era of Intelligent Timber
ILMA entered a new chapter. A new warehouse for laminated beams, an automated hardware system, and SCM X-Lam lines expanded its technological horizon.
